What did you like and dislike about online teaching?

I liked the online teaching setting and actually being in charge of an online class. I liked that everyone could be engaged in my online lesson without them actually being with me. I liked that everyone could raise their hand if they wanted to ask a question or answer one. My favourite part of the online teaching was the different educational games and resources that you can use in your lesson.

I disliked that pressure you feel before you actually start with the lesson. But after starting you start to feel confident and you have lots of fun using the tools and slides accessible to you. The part of online teaching that I also dislike is that it is very easy to get distracted with things around you while teaching or listening to another students lesson, this can be with sounds in the environment movement etc.

What new skills did you learn through this experience?

Through this experience, I learned how to use online tools to make an online lesson more fun and engaging. I also learned new strategies to use in a online classroom environment to ensure that all the learners are focused and engaged in the lesson. I also learned how to adapt a face to face lesson to an online platform lesson.

What would you do differently?

I will use more real world examples in my lesson so that the concept becomes more clear to the learners. I would simplify my lesson content and split the lesson into two parts so that there isn't a knowledge overload in one lesson.

Did you choose appropriate tools to teach your online lesson, explain why?

Yes, because the tool I used kept the learners engaged and it was very interactive. I used Kahoot and the learners enjoys it because it's like a knowledge test game they play after the lesson. This tool helps me to see whether the learners grasped the lesson content or not.

How has this experience developed you for teaching in a school?

This experience has developed me for teaching in a school because I gained more confidence in doing this online lesson, I prepared the lesson as if I would have if I worked at a school. I did lots of research on what learners will enjoy in an online platform lesson and what makes this type of lesson more interactive. It has shown me that I can adapt, grow and learn in an environment and that will benefit me for in a school.

Hi Rochelle. I enjoyed your lesson. I learned a lot of new things and I enjoyed how you included learners in the lesson, by asking them to read parts of the slides. You had me on my toes, with regards to paying attention and interacting😅. After reading your reflection, I can see that you took all the feedback as positive advice, to grow and develop your teaching abilities. You are going to make an amazing teacher.
